Highlight from the History of the NMA
Medico-Chirurgical Society of the District of Columbia. Formed by a small group of white and Negro physicians in 1884, it is the oldest Negro medical society in America. It was the outgrowth of the refusal of the Medical Society of the District of Columbia to accept Negro physicians as members.
